Abstract


The study investigates the influence of parental socio-economic status on child labour in Port Harcourt City Local Government of Rivers State, with a view to indentifying the distribution patter of child labour. The Centre-Periphery theory was adopted as the theoretical framework of the study, while relevant literature was reviewed to explain the meaning and scope of Child labour.  A total of 400copies of questionnaire were distributed to respondents for the study. The study found that the indices of child labour are high in Port Harcourt City LGA, also that there is a significant relationship between family size, income distribution and child labour in Port Harcourt city LGA. The study recommended a review of child labour law that will strengthen the use of punitive measures to punish offenders.
