Abstract

The broad spectrum application of Acenaphthenequinone and its derivatives as biologically active compounds has turned the attention of the Chemists to review their chemistry. Three novalhexadentate Schiff base ligands have been synthesised by the condensation of Acenaphthenequinone with essential amino acids in 1:2 stoichiometry. Synthesized ligands after complexation with metal ionsare structurally characterized by analytical and spectral techniques. Thecomplexes are found to be non-electrolytic in nature.Antimicrobial activity of the metal complexes was tested using agar well diffusion method against the gram positive and negative strains and found to be potent biocidal agents. Themetal complexes are subjected to DNA cleavage with pUC19DNA.
