Abstract

This paper provides a review of concepts and studies related to determinants of the household Socio-Economic Status (SES). An attempt is made to survey the literature pertaining to the complex relationships between social and economic status of household and its determinants. It is primarily intended to examining factors governing the socio-economic status of households along six major lines of status indicators. The six major variables that have been reviewed include Income and Expenditure; Poverty and indebtedness; Health and Education expenditures. Each of these indicators has been examined separately for factors governing their level in the household.
