Abstract
Historically, India had been ruled over by many kings and kingdoms which divided the country into different regions. Each region has its own cultural and religious heritage. The livelihood pattern and the economic activities are very uneven across these regions which resulted into occurrence of regional disparity in the country. Regional inequality inhibits the economic growth and therefore, by a large, it is remain the major concern of economic policies of number of developing countries. The reduction in regional disparities could be an essential tool for socio-economic development, national integration, political stability and unity of a country.
