Abstract

As banking sector plays a pivotal role in the economic development of a country it is very important to increase the efficiency of this sector especially in the recent cut throat competitive era. In the present technology driven environment the main motto of every organization is to reduce its costs of production to increase its profitability and efficiency. Under such circumstances the present study focuses to measure the efficiency of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank at its branch level which is one of the RRBs operating in the state of Assam with its largest network of branches. The study also identifies the factors which are responsible for efficiency/ inefficiency. The non-parametric DEA model is used to measure the efficiency and the Tobit Regression model is used to estimate the determinants of efficiency/inefficiency.
