Abstract
AcalyphahispidaL. (family: Euphorbiaceous) is a weed widely distributed throughout the plains of India. It has been reported to be useful in treating pneumonia, asthma, rheumatism and several other ailments. In this study, silver nano particles (AgNPs) were synthesized using aqueous leaves extract of A. hispida plant. The prepared AgNPs were examined by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The AgNPs were also analyzed for their cytotoxicity property against HepG2 cells by MTT assay. The apoptosis was evaluated by using Reactive Oxygen species (ROS), Mitochondrial Membrane Potential (MMP) and apoptotic protein expression (Caspase3 and 9).Apoptosis was induced by the AgNPs with enhanced ROS production and changed the Mitochondrial Membrane Potential. Finally, the apoptosis was confirmed bythe considerable up-regulation of Caspase-3 and Caspase-9. From these results it is concluded that the synthesized silver nano particles showed potent anticancer activity and it is helpful for liver cancer therapeutics.
