Abstract
The story The Downfall of a Demon, as the title suggests, is about the downfall of a once sovereign fiend Nanjan Mooppan. Nanjan Mooppan is a head priest of a clan God of a group of people and occult practitioner as well. He is also a black magic curer. Taking advantage of people’s reverence for his position as head priest, of the ignorance of people about diseases and fear of his occult, Mooppan lead an indomitable exploitary life. This paper tries to bring out how their naivety conceived fear in their hearts for Mooppan and ultimately bestowing a position of power to him and how he utilised it to control and manipulate them back.
