Abstract

India has had close cultural and economic ties with Southeast Asian countries throughout the history. The significant changes that occurred in the world politics and economic scenario since the early 1990’s and more importantly China’s growing formidable economic and military presence in Southeast Asia compelled India to reform its policy towards ASEAN region. So, India in 1991 in order to revive its ties with South East Asia came with the vibrant policy of ‘Look East’.
