Abstract

One of the major concerns of today’s era is employability. Employability is a set of achievements- various skills, understandings, knowledge and personal attributes or individual characteristics- that make an individual more likely to gain employment and be successful in their chosen career and occupations, which benefit themselves, the workforce, the community and the economy of the country. Indian economy is one of the fastest growing economies in the world today and it is assured to grow further with liberalisation, privatisation and globalization, but the question is whether we are ready for this? Whether the youth of India are skilled enough to compete worldwide and be a partner in this growth mechanism? The current employability scenario of India says a big ‘No’. Most of the youth find themselves unable to gain a good and decent job which further affects their quality of life and psychological health. The employability scenario of graduates in India is undoubtedly an area of great concern. Thus, the present conceptual paper is an attempt to explore these concerns with Psychological perspective and it will be an addition to the existing literature related to employability issues and try to reach some solutions.
