Abstract

Long-Reach Passive Optical Networks (LR-PONs) are those optical access networks which are attracting the researchers because of its huge coverage and capacity. In this network the separation between the central office (CO) and the end users has been increased from a earlier range of 20Km  to 100 Km and more. Therefore it decreases the number of central offices and other active optical components in the system, which results in reduction in expenses. As it provides enough capacity and coverage, probability of failures is quite high.
