Abstract

Global industrialization to make end meets of the booming population comes at the expense of various exposure to environmental contaminants such as heavy metals, which affect the quality of soil and water. On the other hand, heavy metals enter into our food chain which becomes carcinogenic and exhibit lethal effects on human health. The industrial revolution to bring about luxuries and modernized living to the growing population, harness toxic and hazardous chemicals which disturb the ecological balance of the environment. To combat the heavy metal stress, certain defensive strategies like level of osmolytes boost up in the plants, which contribute in the quenching of free radicals.
