Abstract

The present paper deals with the economic contribution of conch-shell industry workers in Kanyakumari district. The objectives of the present study are:


  • To study the socio-economic structure of conch-shell industry workers in Kanyakumari district.

  • To identify income, expenditure and saving of the conch shell industry workers

  • To examine the level of satisfaction about conch-shell industry services.

  • To evaluate the improvement of conch-shell industry services.

  • To explore the problems faced by conch shell industry workers

The data was collected at conch shell industry in Kanyakumari district, where 131 workers are employed. Fifty respondents were chosen from the list, using systematic random sampling method for in depth study. It was conducted during the period of July 2019. Secondary data were collected from publications of labour departments, websites, libraries, standard text books of related topic, leading journal and published documents, records and reports, agent manuals etc. The collected data were analysed by using the statistical tools like percentage, mean, t test, correlation and standard deviation technique. In order to find out the significant difference in satisfaction of conch-shell industry workers based on marital status, the‘t’ value was calculated and the calculated‘t’ value was found to be 0.7313 which is lower than the table value 1.97 which is significant at 0.05 level. Therefore, the null hypothesis is accepted and concluded that there is no significant difference in satisfaction of conch-shell industry workers between marital statuses. An attempt has been made to control the arithmetic relationship between the socioeconomic variable and improvement of conch-shell industry services. Above study gives a correlation of socio-economic variables and improvement of conch-shell industry services. It concluded that there are no significant relations between socio-economic variable and improvement of conch-shell industry services.
