Abstract
Santhal is a major tribe of Jharkhand who are also scattered in West Bengal, Odisha, Assam etc. Folklore materials of Santhal people are very rich. The practice of storytelling is as old as mankind, so are folktales. It is said that folktales are the first teacher in the life of a child. Folktales play very important role in the society; imparting moral lesson is one of them. Folktales are the exact reflection of society and we know society has many dimensions as well as layers of thoughts. This particular paper will give a picture of selected Santhal folklore along with the interpretation of Santhal folktales and material culture with symbolic images.
