Abstract
Social Media means websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. Social media is a new forum that brings people to exchange ideas, connect with, relate to, and mobilize for a cause, seek advice, and offer guidance. Social media has removed communication barriers and created decentralized communication channel and open the door for all to have a voice and participate. Social media is a platform for public around the World to discuss their issues and opinions. The effects of social networking are twofold. On the positive side, social networks can act as invaluable tools for professionals. They achieve this by assisting young professionals to market their skills and seek business opportunities. Social networking sites may also be used to network efficiently. On the negative side, the internet is laden with a number of risks associated with online communities. Fake news rise corresponds with a growing distrust in the mainstream media. Fake news has now even slipped into traditional media outlets and is often circulated by prominent individuals. Hopefully, in times to come, people will learn to take more responsibility for what they share and social media platforms will regain their lost trust. The government should bring out a policy framework on possible harm due to internet messaging platforms to engage at a deeper level.
