Abstract

One of the world's current environmental pollution challenges is the rational use of water resources, the solution to which largely lies in treatment of industrial wastewater containing heavy metals, particularly iron. Excess iron in humans can be highly toxic, leading to a variety of serious conditions of liver, heart, and lung diseases, hormonal abnormalities, diabetes mellitus, and a dysfunctional immune system. There is therefore a need for urgent attention to remediate and recover iron from the studied metal galvanizing industrial wastewater. This study examined the application of Sugarcane Bagasse (SCB) activated carbon as an adsorbent in remediating Fe2+ from the metal galvanizing industrial wastewater, and its desorption for recovery.
