Abstract
The current nickel supply deficit and frequent fluctuation in its cost resulted in fetching the attention of researchers to instigate other alternatives of stainless steel which contains less amount of nickel as its alloying element. Among the various existing stainless steel grades, austenitic stainless steels (ASS) are utilized in approximately 60-70 % of applications, but ASS requires nickel as its major consequent. One of the better alternatives to replace austenitic stainless steel is ferritic grades, which comprise less nickel and have very similar performance at a relatively lower cost. The present study is an attempt to highlight the various welding techniques (fusion/solid-state) which utilized most, for joining of these ferritic stainless steel (FSS) grades.
