Abstract
Atherosclerosis is a large artery disease that leads to heart and stroke disease. It is characterized in the large arteries by the accumulation of lipids and fibrous elements. Atherosclerosis conventional treatments are statins, fibrates, niacin, and ezetimibe that work through various mechanisms. All these therapeutic agents are associated with one or more side effects, and none of the current therapies can accomplish the ultimate therapeutic target, i.e. they defend against atherosclerosis and reverse it partially. Herbal remedies are an alternative source of relieving symptoms of clinicians with atherosclerosis as well as addressing the risks associated with conventional methods of treatment.
