Abstract

Buffalo is a livestock species of economic and cultural importance in developing countries. In livestock, buffalo is considered an integral component of the Indian agricultural economy and it has a significant role in livelihood and food security. There are currently 72 buffalo breeds in the world, while Asia has 57 breeds (Mahid et al., 2017). There are 16 registered breeds in India (Anonymous 2018) and they are ranked 1st in the world (Jakhar et al., 2017). Indian buffaloes are today known as a major source of milk.
