Abstract

The present study is defined poverty in terms of the level of per capita expenditure sufficient to provide a daily average intake of food equivalent to 2400 calories per person in rural areas plus some allowance for the consumption of certain basic non-food items. An average household was supposed to have five members. The average calorie norm of 2400 for rural areas was arrived on the basic of age-sex activity calorie requirement recommended by Nutritional Expert Group 1968.
