Abstract

Surface hardening technique is castoff to enhance the wear resistance of components without impede the smother, hard kernel of the component. It is well known that Boron nitride is a unique material due of its unusual physical, thermal and dielectric properties, which makes it a potential candidate for investigating wide range of applications in surface engineering. In order to obtain such coatings, many chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and physical vapour deposition (PVD) techniques were used. This review paper is aimed to summarize tribological and mechanical properties of BN based coatings for different surface hardening processes. Still research is going in order to obtain the perfect some coating processes using new ceramics.
