Abstract
Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY) is a centrally sponsored scheme launched in December 1997 aimed at providing gainful employment opportunities and empowering the urban poor by enhancing their skills and capacities. This paper presents a review of the SJSRY scheme, including its objectives, key components, implementation strategies, and outcomes. The review finds that while the scheme has been successful in providing employment and income opportunities to a large number of urban poor, there are several challenges related to its implementation, such as lack of awareness among the target groups, inadequate monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, and the need for better coordination among the various stakeholders. The paper concludes that to ensure the continued success of the SJSRY scheme, there is a need for more focused efforts on improving the targeting of the scheme, strengthening its implementation mechanisms, and enhancing the participation of the urban poor in the scheme.
