Abstract
Assessment is very significant in determining the direction, quality, as well as the results of learning. With Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system being implemented in India, there was a remarkable pedagogical transition between the traditional, exam-focused system of assessment to a more holistic, student-centered approach. This research paper is a critical assessment of the effectiveness of CCE system in comparison with traditional assessment method with regards to their theoretical contexts, implementation, effects of the systems on the learners, challenges coupled with the systems, and educational outcomes. Basing on the academic insights, research evidence, and policy reports, the paper emphasizes that the implementation of the CCE system enables an inclusive learning process and, to achieve the goal of alleviating academic stress, the results of the intervention depend on the willingness of teachers, the infrastructural facilities, and the awareness of stakeholders. The old-fashioned approach, despite being narrow-range, and frequently being criticized due to its encouragement of rote learning, and performance anxiety, is still accurate in standardization and also in large-scale comparison. The paper will conclude that both the systems have their own advantages and disadvantages and a combination of the two models with the dependability of conventional assessment and the holistic and formative approach of CCE will provide more balanced and effective system of educational assessment.
