Abstract

Even as it remains a fact that 75% of world’s population does not speak English language at all yet this hardly changes the actuality of importance this language beholds; especially in terms of employability enhancing and improving communication skills, aside comprehending the subject one studies. The significance of learning and mastering a second language in gaining career opportunities, confidence boosting, performing executive functions and multitasking and attaining confidence cannot be undermined. In this part of the world, the most sought-after language is undoubtedly English and rightly so in view of its role in creating an impression and begetting a desirable job. Nevertheless, despite being the only city of Haryana boosting of four universities, scores of law, degree, education, management, medicine and engineering colleges among others and hundreds of English medium expensive schools, majority of students here are still struggling to master the aspects of this language including speaking, reading, writing and understanding. This paper attempts to study the constraints in comprehension of English language and the major impeding factors.
