Abstract

James Joyce’s Ulysses is the magnum opus of the giant Irish writer which has gained its reputation as a behemoth in the era of Modern literature and it acts as a guiding light to many Modernist movements. However, this novel is also a text which is extremely renowned because of its intricate obscurity. But despite its repute of obscurity, it is in fact one of the closest books which reflects the true nature and spirit of human soul ever written. It is a novel of anguish, happiness, music, smiles, flesh, blood, pain etc.; a great symphony of human voices. As an avant-garde, the novel is devoid of any kind of plot, it hardly has any grand unifying story that is tied with neat threads, one is not sure where the characters are because one flints in and out; there's bits and dialogues, there are bits of descriptions and bits of Joyce's extraordinary erudition. The purpose of the paper is to highlight the evolution of Joyce’s writing style and also showing how his writing not only represents the age but also is ahead of it.
