Abstract

The study of the competitiveness in our growing banking sector gained lots of importance. The major reforms were taken place to pace the financial growth of the economy by 1998. This study evaluates the level of competition and market structure of Indian banking sector because of the entry of foreign banks and privatization of state owned banks over the period 2000 to 2015 of 68 banks. This study utilized the panzar and rosse model. And market structure is measured by using K bank concentration ratio and the herfindahl hirchman index (HHI) for the period 2000 to 2015. The finding of panzar and rosse model shows that banks are earning profits under monopolistic competition.
