Abstract

Henri Lefebvre is of the opinion that every society produces its own space. Sex and sexuality cannot be decoupled from space. Yi-Fu Tuan associates city with freedom and openness. R. Raj Rao's cult novel The Boyfriendhas Bombay as its backdrop. The first section of my paper will give a brief overview of the setting of the text. The second section will take recourse to the theorists mentioned above to examine how Bombay produces queer spaces. Lastly, I will read select passages within a queer theoretical framework to understand the entanglement between the queer body and society.
