Abstract

The principle of gender equality in the Indian constitution lies in its preamble, fundamental rights, fundamental duties and directional principles. The Constitution not only provides equality to women, but also empowers the state to adopt positive discrimination measures in favor of women. Within the framework of a democratic politics, the purpose of our laws, development policies, plans and programs is to advance women in different fields. India has ratified various international conventions and human rights instruments to safeguard equal rights of women. The principle of gender equality lies in its introduction, fundamental rights, fundamental duties and instructions in the Indian Constitution. The Constitution of India not only provides equality for women, but empowers the state to adopt measures of positive discrimination in favor of women.
